As a trusted supplier, we understand that we have a responsibility to protect and preserve the natural and built environment. This means weighing up the economic, social and environmental impacts of every project we work on.
In the article below we discuss the importance of concrete protection on the environment and how Bluey assists projects in the area of supply and installation.
Why does concrete need protection?
Despite its composition and reputation as one of the most reliable and commonly used building materials, concrete deteriorates over time. Whether this is because of the inherent presence of water, acidic gasses, chloride ions or sulphates, all concrete should be protected with liners, coatings or epoxy products.
It’s also important to recognise that concrete is designed to crack during its service life, which unfortunately allows contaminants to penetrate and reach steel reinforcement areas. In some cases, with the harshest of environments, this can result in structures only lasting a few years before becoming unsafe (image right).
This is why Bluey implements the highest International Standards to ensure that concrete structures will be protected against water infiltration in underground environments for the duration of its design life.
How does Bluey assist with concrete protection?
We assist asset owners, designers, specifiers, government authorities and contractors in a number of areas related to concrete protection, including:
• Basement Waterproofing: BluSeal VLDPE and BluSeal PVC
• Tunnel Waterproofing: BluSeal VLDPE and BluSeal PVC
• Epoxy Coatings: All BluRez Epoxy Products
• Sewer Protection: BluSeal AKS and BluCem ZeoGlass
• Cast-in Liners: BluSeal AKS
All products listed below this article.
Our team of Civil Engineers is more than happy to work through any project to help ensure that concrete remains strong and waterproof for the maximum amount of time.
Concrete Protection with BluSeal VLDPE Liner
Across both basement and tunnel waterproofing projects, we recommend the use of BluSeal VLDPE Liner – a sheet membrane lining that welds to form a flexible system. This product comes in a range of thicknesses, designed to add value in different performance applications.
Some of the advantages of the VLDPE Liner includes:
• Reliable waterproofing performance
• Great weldability
• Long term durability
• High tear strength and elongation
Preventing water inflow and providing asset protection, the BluSeal VLDPE Tunnel Liner is one of the most effective methods of asset and concrete protection.
Concrete Protection with BluSeal AKS – Anchor Knob Sheet
If your concrete protection project is in contact with aggressive chemical environments (such as sewers), we suggest the application of BluSeal AKS – Anchor Knob Sheet. The cast-in high-density polyethylene sheet is a chemically resistant membrane which works extremely well to protect, enhance and repair concrete structures.
Benefits of the AKS include:
• Low maintenance
• Reliable installation
• High anchor pull-out strength
• Chemical and mechanical impact resistance
• Fully-welded homogeneous lining.
BluSeal AKS is one of our most popular concrete protection products and has been used in a vast number of projects over recent years. Due to the continuous infrastructure project upgrades across Australia, many of the largest potable and wastewater assets across the country are now implementing AKS, adding value and an extended service life to the infrastructure.
